Follow this LINK to download a brochure (in pdf format) about the "Letters About Literature" contest sponsored by the Iowa Center for the Book, the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and Target Stores.  The contest asks students (grades 4-12) to write to a favorite author explaining how that author's work "changed their view of the world or themselves."

Although teachers will be promoting this contest at school, please consider printing a few copies to display for your homeschoolers or others who may not have heard about it.  The deadline for submissions is January 6, 2012.

For a limited time!

We have some “left-over” die cut letters around the office, so I’ve come up with some simple back-to-school bulletin board ideas:

Using white letters on a black background to resemble a chalk board, write the themes “Back-to-School @ your library” or “Ready for School @ your library.” [Add a brown frame and some book jackets or tips for parents to complete your display.

We have lots of letters in assorted colors, so I’m offering the idea below.  No choice of colors, but we will throw in the book shapes! (3)

**Just call the SWILSA office or email sgruber@swilsa.lib.ia.us and specify #1 (“Back-to-School @ your library” in white), #2 (“Ready for School @ your library” in white) or #3 (“READ-y for School” in assorted colors).
