Introducing . . . The Library!

(Resources for teaching children about the library from the SWILSA collection.)

The Shelf Elf by Jackie Mims Hopkins is a great way to introduce children to the library and book care.  The book comes with suggestions for programming.

What Happened to Marion's Book by Brook Berg teaches children about book care.  The book comes with suggestions for programming (coloring pages, bookmarks to copy, etc.).

Toddle On Over by Robin Works Davis has rhymes.

One-Person Puppet Plays includes the play "Take Me To Your Library" -- about a space creature who visits earth and learns about libraries.

The August/September 2005 issue of Library Sparks has a library orientation plan using The Shelf Elf.

The August/September 2004 issue of Library Sparks includes a page of bookmarks about caring for books (without words) that can be photocopied.

All of the above items are available for loan from SWILSA.  Just call the office at 712-328-9218 or email swirls@swilsa.lib.ia.us to request!
