I tried to do the Security Update in
Windows Media Player and it didn't work. I can download but it tells me
"parameter is incorrect."
Try performing the Security Upgrade a second time.
It won't do the Windows Media Player security
upgrade from the Tools menu of the Overdrive Media Console.
While there could be
several issues causing the Windows Media Player security error, a common
solution is running the security upgrade directly from the following Microsoft
website (using Internet Explorer only):
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite
The installation package
could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it,
or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer Package.
Perform the following steps to install the OverDrive
Media Console:
1. Copy this URL:
http://www.overdrive.com/files/odmediaconsolesetup.msi
and paste it in your web browser's address field.
2. Press 'Enter' to begin the download.
3. When the .msi has finished downloading, attempt to install it.
What formats can I
use with the Overdrive Media Console, including the apps?
Different versions of OverDrive Media Console support different formats.
OverDrive Media Console for Windows & Windows Mobile support…
MP3 Audiobooks
WMA Audiobooks
WMA Music
WMV Video
OverDrive Media Console for Android & iPhone/iPad support…
EPUB eBooks

Logging In / Authenticating
I have a patron who
also has a child using WILBOR and the console won't let her switch between her
account and her child's account, as they are both library cardholders.. It is
only remembering her child's barcode number won't even go back to the page that
will allow her to enter hers, thus not allowing each patron their number of
books.
Your patron is
encountering this issue because their library uses EZproxy. Ezproxy stores a
user's credentials
in a session ID for 2 hours. This means that your patron will automatically be
logged in for 2 hours. During this period, they will not be able to log into a
different account using the same internet browser. If your patron would like to
login using a different library card number, they will need to open a different
internet browser.
When I try to choose a library, I get an
"Error 0XC0001B68"
Would you please ask your patrons to
clear their Temporary Internet Files by using the steps below and try to log
into their digital account again?
To clear the Temporary Internet Files:
If they have Internet Explorer 6:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Temporary Internet Files' section, click
the 'Delete Files' button.
3. Check the 'Delete all offline content' checkbox.
4. Once completed, please also click the 'Delete Cookies' button 5. Click
'OK'.
If they have Internet Explorer 7:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Browsing history' section, click the
'Delete'
button.
3. Click the 'Delete files' button under the 'Temporary Internet Files'
heading.
4. Click 'Yes'.
If they have Internet Explorer 8:
1. Start Internet Explorer 8.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the General tab, click Delete under Browsing History.
4. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click to clear all of the
check boxes except for the Temporary Internet Files check box, and then
click Delete.
5. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.
If they are using Safari:
1. Open Safari.
2. Click the Edit menu.
3. Click Empty Cache....
4. When asked if you are sure you want to empty the cache, click the Empty
button.
If they are using Firefox:
1. Open FireFox (Mozilla).
2. Click the Tools menu.
3. Click Clear Private Data.
4. Check Cache. Note that any other checked items will also be cleared, so
un-check any that you do not want to clear.
5. Click the Clear Private Data Now button.
Macs
When my patron with a Mac attempts to download,
the file goes to an application other than Overdrive Media Console.
To set OverDrive Media Console for Mac to open ODM
files automatically, follow these instructions…
Control-click the ODM file and select 'Get Info'.
The 'Info' window is displayed.
Expand the 'Open with:' section.
*
In the drop-down list of Applications, select 'Other…'.
The 'Choose an application to open the document…' dialog box is displayed.
Select 'OverDrive Media Console' and check the 'Always Open With' box. Click
'Add'.
Close the 'Info' window.
OverDrive Media Console is now set to open ODM files automatically.
IF "Overdrive Media Console" is on the list of applications to choose from
but is unavailable (i.e., "grayed out"):
From the Info window, select "other" (as in step that is starred above) and
in that window pull down the dialog box for "Enable;" select "All
applications" and Overdrive Media Console should be available to choose.
Continue with the instructions above to set it to open ODM files
automatically in Overdrive Media Console. You will want to click on
"Change all" to set this as the default application for all odm files. If
that button is grayed out you may have to toggle back and forth between choosing
a couple of applications (without "saving" the choices) to "release" the Change
All button.
Downloading
After downloading the Media Console you will need to do a one-time Windows
Media Player Security Upgrade. To do that:
- Open the Overdrive Media Console (It is best to do this in Internet
Explorer.)
- Click on the "Tools" menu
- Select "Windows Media Player Security Upgrade"
- The upgrade will install.
When downloading books
and I get to the point when I am going to download I get a message that says
"error OxC00D2751 Digital Right Management, etc, etc.....Contact Microsoft
product support."
"We think the error you
are receiving can be resolved by resetting the
DRM (Digital Rights Management) for Windows Media Player. Please perform
the following steps to reset the DRM.
1. Open the "Control Panel".
2. Open "Folder Options" and select the "View" tab.
3. Select "Show hidden files and folders".
4. Un-check "Hide protected operating system files".
5. In the warning message you receive, click "Yes".
6. Click "OK".
7. Close the Control Panel.
8. Rename the DRM folder to DRM.old.
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
9. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
10. Go to "Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade".
"When trying to download an audiobook I get an error
message: Error 0×80070057: The parameter is incorrect."Overdrive:
We are sorry that your patron is having difficulty downloading OverDrive Audio
Books. We think the error they are receiving can be resolved by resetting the
DRM (Digital Rights Management) for Windows Media Player. Please ask the
patron to perform the following steps to reset the DRM and let us know what
results they get:
1. First, please delte the DRM folder on your computer. Depending on your OS,
it can be found in different locations:
* Windows 2000 and XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
* Windows 98: C:\Windows\All Users\DRM
* Windows Millennium Edition: C:\Windows\DRM
If you cannot find the folder, it may be ‘hidden’. Please use the following
steps to view hidden files and folders.
* In Windows Explorer go to Tools > Folder Options > View
* Under ‘Hidden files and folders’ heading, make the following changes:
o Select ‘Show Hidden Files and Folders’
o Un-check ‘Hide Protected Operating System Files’
* Click the button ‘Apply to All Folders’. This will ensure the changes affect
all folders on the system.
2. Re-run the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade from the OverDrive
Media Console under the ‘Tools’ menu.
3. Attempt to download an OverDrive Audio Book.
When I go to download a book the computer starts up
Open Office instead of the Overdrive Media Console.
Open Office uses .odm file format, which is also the extension for the file
that Overdrive Media Console uses to secure the license for downloaded books.
If you have recently installed or updated Open Office it would have 'claimed"
the .odm files, so that any time you ask to open a file with the .odm format
the computer would use Open Office to use the file. You can either
install the Overdrive Media Console again, which should change the
application/program associated with the .odm format, or you can manually
change that association:
- In My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.
- Select the 'File Types' tab.
- Scroll down to the 'ODM' file type.
- Make sure that the extension is set to open with
OverDrive Media Console. If it is not, click the 'Change' button and
select
OverDrive Media Console.
- Click 'OK' as needed to save the changes and exit the open windows.
- Go to the library website and download the book again.
"Error

3. Go to the library website and download the book again.>
"A problem has occurred in the Digital Rights
Management component."
This can usually be resolved by resetting the
Digital Rights Management (DRM) on the computer using the below steps.
**Please note the different steps for Vista and XP starting with item #8.**
1. Open the 'Control Panel'.
2. Open 'Folder Options' and select the 'View' tab.
3. Select 'Show hidden files and folders'.
4. Uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'.
5. In the warning message you receive, click 'Yes'.
6. Click 'OK'.
7. Close the Control Panel
**If you are using Windows Vista**
8. Click the Start button. In the 'Start Search' box, paste the following:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
9. Press 'Enter'.
10. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:
blackbox.bin
drmstore.hds
v3ks.bla
v3ks.sec
11. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
12. Go to 'Tools' > 'Windows Media Player Security Upgrade'.
**If you are using Windows XP or Older**
8. Rename the DRM folder to DRM.old.
Depending on your OS, it can be found in different locations:
- Windows 2000 and XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ DRM
- Windows 98: C:\Windows\All Users\DRM
- Windows ME: C:\Windows\DRM
9. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
10. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
When downloading, I get the message "the
file format is invalid. The specific ODM (and its location) file is not
valid."
Please have your patron double check that she is
downloading the audiobook to the main hard drive of her PC as opposed to an
external hard drive or portable device.
If the download location is correct, please please ask her to check the file
association for the temporary license file (.odm) that initially downloads
with our audiobooks. It sounds like the file associations are set to open with
OverDrive Media Console, but it might be trying to open
the file with the Transfer Wizard or Burn Wizard .exe file.
For Windows Vista:
1. Go to "Start > Control Panel".
2. Open "Default Programs".
3. Click on "Associate a file type or protocol with a program".
4. Navigate to ".odm".
5. Click "Change Program".
6. Select Browse.
7. Go to Program Files / OverDrive Media Console and select
MediaConsole.exe.
8. Click "OK".
9. Try downloading a book again.
For Windows XP and older:
1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.
2. Select the 'File Types' tab.
3. Scroll down to the 'ODM' file type.
4. Click the 'Change' button.
5. Select Browse.
6. Go to Program Files / OverDrive Media Console and select MediaConsole.exe.
(As opposed to CDBurnWizard.exe or TransferWizard.exe)
7. Click 'OK' as needed to save the changes and exit the open windows.
Once your patron has completed this check, please ask her to clear her
browser's 'Temporary Internet Files' and try downloading the title again.
To clear these files...
If you have Internet Explorer 7:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Browsing history' section, click the
'Delete' button.
3. Click the 'Delete files’ button under the ‘Temporary Internet Files’
heading.
4. Click 'Yes'.
If you have Internet Explorer 8:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Browsing history' section, click the 'Delete'
button.
3. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, clear all of the check boxes
except for 'Temporary Internet Files'.
4. Click 'Delete'.

These steps are to 'fully' uninstall Windows Media Player 11 on a
Windows XP computer, and then reinstall it. We apologize, but this is an
involved process, please follow each step carefully.
First, please follow these steps to see hidden files and folders:
1. Go to 'Start' > 'Settings' > 'Control Panel'.
2. Open 'Folder Options'
3. Select the 'View' tab.
4. Select "Show hidden files and folders".
5. Make sure "Hide protected operating system files" is NOT selected.
(In the warning message you receive, click 'Yes'.) 6. Click 'OK.
7. Close the Control Panel.
Next, please follow these steps to reinstall Windows Media Player 11:
1. At the following Microsoft website, take the steps listed under
"Rolling back to a previous version of the Player" to uninstall Windows
Media Player 11.
(Be sure to take all steps listed).
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx#RollingbacktoapreviousversionofthePlayer
2. Delete the DRM folder:.
This is found in this directory (do not delete other DRM folders):
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Open Windows Media Player. This will finish the setup process for the
previously installed version of Windows Media Player.
5. Reinstall Windows Media Player 11. The installation program can be
downloaded from this page.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx
6. Run all available Windows Media Player updates from this page.
(Please be sure to return to this page after each reboot, as further
updates may become available.)
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
7. Run the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade from the OverDrive
Media Console by going to the 'Tools' menu.
I can't perform the security upgrade on
Windows Media Player, even with the direct Microsoft direct link.
The security setting on your computer might be preventing you from doing
the upgrade; try:
* In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet
Options.
* Select the Security tab and click the Internet icon.
* In the 'Security level for this zone' portion of the window, click
'Default Level' to set the level to 'Medium'.
* Click 'OK' and close the browser.
Error code: 80040812. Failed call to fulfill the title. The fulfillment limit
(3) has been reached.
A user is limited to three downloads (or attempts to download) on a single
title. Please contact a WILBOR team member for instructions on how
you can re-activate the downloads for your patron.
Can I use my Kindle Fire for audiobooks? It says
the Fire isn't compatible, but the Fire should play mp3.
On the Fire, tap the gear icon in the upper right,
choose more, choose "Device" and change Allow Installation of Applications
from Unknown Sources to "On."
Download the Overdrive ANDROID app from Overdrive. The download button isn't
the one you want, choose the one included in the sentence under it that says
something about Android from Overdrive. (Today I was showing my staff members
and we went to WILBOR's help and chose Audio and Android and I think it took
us directly to the one we wanted. We were doing it on thecomputer rather than
the Fire, so it might have worked differently)
These will play MP3s for sure. From the Amazon discussion sheet, it said WMAs
weren't supported by Fire yet, but that at least gives some options.
(Thanks, Kelly!)
Playing Audiobooks
The book has downloaded, but it won't play: "The
file has an extension that does not match the format."
Please ask the patron to delete the title from the
OverDrive Media Console and follow the steps below to empty their
temporary internet files:
- In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
- On the 'General' tab, in the 'Temporary Internet Files' section, click
the 'Delete Files' button.
- Check the 'Delete all offline content' checkbox.
- Click 'OK'.
Next, please ask them to change the ODM file associations by following the
steps below:
- In My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.
- Select the 'File Types' tab.
- Scroll down to the 'ODM' file type.
- Make sure that the extension is set to open with
OverDrive Media Console. If it is not, click the 'Change' button and
select
OverDrive Media Console.
- Click 'OK' as needed to save the changes and exit the open windows.
- Go to the library website and download the book again.
Transferring to mp3 players
When I try to transfer to my mp3 player it
says I don't have a license.
When you're transferring a
downloaded book to an mp3 player you should transfer it using the Overdrive
Media Console, rather than through the mp3 player's software or a Windows OS
utility. When you've downloaded the book the Console will automatically launch,
and when you select a book on the list in the Console the "Transfer" button at
the top of the console will be active; use that to transfer.
I did the
security upgrade and a book transferred fine. But now when it try to
transfer another book it tells me again that the license in invalid.
Please ask the patron to verify that the date/time is
correct on their computer. Next, please ask your
patron to follow the steps below remove the title and empty their
temporary internet files:
1. Delete the title from the OverDrive Media Console.
2. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
3. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Temporary Internet Files' section,
click the 'Delete Files' button.
4. Check the 'Delete all offline content' checkbox.
5. Click 'OK'.
Next, please ask them to change the ODM file associations by following
the steps below:
1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options.
2. Select the 'File Types' tab.
3. Scroll down to the 'ODM' file type.
4. Make sure that the extension is set to open with OverDrive Media
Console. If it is not, click the 'Change' button and select OverDrive
Media Console.
5. Click 'OK' as needed to save the changes and exit the open windows.
6. Go to the library website and download the book again.
Zen Stone: Using the Media Console "Advanced" button to manage folders
on Zen Stone players
You can use the Media
Console to manage folders on the Zen Stone (so all the parts of a book go into a
folder together, just for that book, instead of into the root folder): When you click on the Transfer button, and see the window that
lists the parts of the book, click on the "Advanced" button and it will let you
select the folder on the mp3 player that you want to transfer it to. If you
don't already have a folder (and you won't, unless you created one in whatever
software came with your player) you can use the "Create new folder" to create a
folder just for that book, then have it transfer the book to that folder.
Sansa
I used the Media console
to transfer the books. The Sansa puts books under Music, as someone else
reported. I created a new folder for audio books, and used the advanced options
to save a book there, but you still have to search for it under Music. When I
look at the directory structure of my player, "audiobooks" is a separate folder
from "Music" and the audio books are in the "audiobooks" folder. But to listen
to them, I have to go into the "music" menu on the player. (Apparently the
designers at Sansa didn't envision them being used for audio books as well as
music.) It might be a little confusing, but it works! {Wendy Street]

Your patron's device uses two different transfer modes
that are automatically selected by the device (MTP or MSC); the primary mode is
MTP. MTP mode is what allows the transfer of the license along with the WMA

transfer both OverDrive MP3 and WMA Audiobooks, or she can switch between the
two (MTP for WMA Audiobooks and MSC for MP3 Audiobooks).

to their library account and attempt to transfer a title.
Zune player; Windows Media Player didn't
recognize the Zune player in the past but the new version of Overdrive Media
Console (3.1) does make it easy to transfer to Zunes; here's a report from a
librarian with a Zune player:
I" have a Zune player and have finally had success with the audio books from the
Wilbor site! I had to update my Zune program and player as well as update –
download my overdrive program so that it would recognize my player. After the
updates I went to the Zune marketplace and clicked on their link for audiobooks
and followed the links to the overdrive and then Wilbor sites where I could
choose my library and continue through to check out my titles."
SD card: I have moved the file over to my SD card but
it won't play when I plug it into my radio.
OverDrive WMA Audiobooks are not compatible with SD
cards because SD cards do not support the DRM (Digital Rights Management)
license attached to our WMA Audiobooks. This would explain why your patron is
able to listen to the
title on her computer but not in her car.
If the license allows, your patron can certainly burn the title to a CD to
listen to her in car (if she has a CD player installed).
I want to listen to an audiobook on my nook; how
can I do that?
You can listen to mp3 audiobooks on your nook (but not wma titles). Check
out and download as you would for any audiobook title. Connect the
nook, and click on the Transfer button in the Overdrive Media Console.
If the OMC recognizes the nook as an mp3 device, just transfer as you would to
any mp3 player.
If you are unable to select the Nook as a "Player" in
the OverDrive Transfer Wizard, you will need to copy the downloaded files to the
Nook directly. Please follow these steps:
1. Download the checked out title from the library website, and download all
parts of the title in OverDrive Media Console.
2. Navigate to "My Documents", then "My Media", then "MP3 Audiobooks". This
folder should contain folders for each Audiobook you have downloaded in
OverDrive Media Console.
3. Right-click the folder of the book you would like to transfer, and select
"Copy".
4. Plug the Nook into the computer.
5. Navigate to "Computer" (or "My Computer" depending on the version of
Windows).
6. Open the drive corresponding to the Nook device. It will usually be named
"Nook" or "Nook Color" depending on the device.
7. Navigate to "My Files" or "My Audiobooks", depending on the device.
8. Select "Edit" and "Paste" from the toolbar to paste the folder containing
your Audiobook into the Nook.
9. Return to "Computer", right-click the drive corresponding to the Nook, and
select "Eject." Unplug the Nook.
The Audiobook can be played using the Nook's built-in music player.
iPods
How do I transfer to an iPod?
The download and transfer process is much the same as for wma files.
Each time you download an mp3 title, however, you will need to accept the End
User Agreement.
There is one additional step, a setting for your device in iTunes (Note: this
is for iPods except the Shuffle; see below for note about Shuffles.):
After downloading the title, before you click on "Transfer" in the Media
Console, connect your iPod and open iTunes. In the iPod's window in iTunes,
in the "Summary" tab, click on "Manually manage music and video" (in the
"Options section of the window) and click on "Apply" button.

Then click on the "Transfer" button in the Media Console to transfer the book
to the iPod.
(If you don't do this step, the Media Console will give you an alert that
tells you that you must do that, and how to do it.)
I'm not using the computer I usually use when
I sync my iPod, and I don't want to erase what's on my iPod and sync with this
computer.
You should be able to 'cancel' out when that warning window appears.
You can set your iTunes on that computer to NOT automatically sync: before
connecting iPod, open iTunes and in the Edit menu choose "preferences."
Click to check "Disable automatic syncing" Then follow steps of "How
do I tranfer to an iPod," above.
It says it isn't compatible with a Shuffle?
Can't I use a Shuffle to listen to mp3 titles?
You should be able to transfer titles to a Shuffle, but you'll need to use
iTunes, rather then than the Media Console. Here's one way to do it (there
may be shorter routes, but this one works...)
Download the title, using the Overdrive Media Console.
Open iTunes. From the "File" menu select "Add Folder to Library"
"Browse" for My Documents--My Media--mp3 audiobooks for the folder with the
title you just donwloaded.
Click on the folder to select it, then click on OK. The book will be
added to "Albums" in iTunes.
Drag the title to the Shuffle icon.
The title is listed as iPod compatible, but when I
attempt to transfer, I get the
following message : "The license for this title prohibits conversion and
transfer to Apple devices.
We believe this error may be resolved by removing this
title from their computer,
clearing their temporary internet files, and attempting to redownload
the title from their library account.
To remove the title from the OverDrive Media Console, please complete
the following -
1. Open the OverDrive Media Console and delete the problem title(s).
2. Verify that the title has been removed from the following folder:
*C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\My Documents\My Media\{format of
book}\{name of book}
Next, please ask them to clear their Temporary Internet Files by using
these steps -
Internet Explorer 6:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Temporary Internet Files' section,
click the 'Delete Files' button.
3. Check the 'Delete all offline content' checkbox.
4. Once completed, please also click the ‘Delete Cookies’ button.
5. Click 'OK'.
Internet Explorer 7:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the Browsing history' section, click the
'Delete' button.
3. Click the 'Delete all’ button at the bottom of this menu.
4. Click 'Yes'.
Internet Explorer 8:
1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options.
2. On the 'General' tab, in the 'Browsing history' section, click the
'Delete' button.
3. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, clear all of the check
boxes except for 'Temporary Internet Files'.
4. Click 'Delete'.
Once these steps have been completed, please ask them to return to their
library account and attempt to download and transfer their title. Once
the title has been downloaded, please ask them to transfer the title
through the OverDrive Media Console.
1. Connect a portable player to your computer.
2. In OverDrive Media Console, highlight the title you wish to transfer
and click the 'Transfer' button. The OverDrive Media Console Transfer
Wizard is displayed.
3. Verify that the correct title is displayed on the first screen of the
Transfer Wizard and click 'Next'. The Transfer Wizard searches for a
connected portable device.
4. In the 'Confirm' dialog box, select the Part(s) you want to transfer
by checking the box(es) next to the Part name(s).
5. Click 'Next' to begin transferring the file(s) to the device. When
the file transfer is complete, the Transfer Wizard displays a 'success'
message.
6. Click 'Finish' to exit the Transfer Wizard. You can disconnect the
portable device and enjoy the title on-the-go.

Burning CDs
You must use the Overdrive Media Console to burn CDs
because it needs to secure the DRM license, and that is done through the
Console. Open the Media Console, click on the book to burn to CD and click
on the "Burn" button at the top.
---
I have been having problems listening to an audio
CD I've burned using OverDrive Media Console of an audio book downloaded from
WILBOR. I can burn the CD just fine, but there is always a problem during
playback. I get an
obnoxious buzzing noise at the start of the second section of part 1 (I haven't
tried any other parts). This has happened with 2 different titles. I have
OverDrive Media Console v3.0.0.1, Windows Media Player v11.0.5721.5230 and
Windows Media Player DRM version 2.8.0.1.
Since this issue appears to related to burning tracks within a part, please
ask your patron to try removing the pause that is placed between each track.
This setting can be changed using the following steps:
1. Open OverDrive Media Console.
2. Select title and click 'Burn'. This will open the Burn Wizard.
3. Click 'Next'.
4. In the Confirm screen, select the 'Options' button.
5. Un-check the box for 'Include brief pause between audiobook tracks.'
6. Click on 'OK' and continue with burning Part(s).
If this does not resolve this issue, your patron may want to try burning titles
with Windows Media Player. (Please note that Windows Media Player will not
include the tracks.) An easy way to add an OverDrive Audiobook to the Windows
Media Player playlist can be done using the following.
- Open OverDrive Media Console
- Select a title and click 'Play'
- This will open the title in the OverDrive Media Explorer window
- In the bottom, right-hand corner, there will be a 'Launch Windows Media
Player' button next to the Bookmark button. Click on this button to open this
full title in Windows Media Player.
I am getting an error message while attempting to
burn an audio book to CD. It states "Error details: Unable to open media file
because [SyncReader.Open] returned 0x80004005
Please
ask the patron to perform the following steps to completely uninstall
and reinstall the OverDrive Media Console:
To remove your existing installation of OverDrive Media Console:
- Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
- Near the bottom of the page, download the installation package for the
'Windows Install Cleanup Utility'.
- Once you download the .EXE file, run it to install the utility.
- Then, run the utility from the programs list in the Start Menu.
- Select the OverDrive Media Console and click 'Remove'.
- Close the utility.
After they have completed these steps please perform the following to
reinstall the OverDrive Media Console:
1. Copy this URL:
http://www.overdrive.com/files/odmediaconsolesetup.msi
and paste it in your web browser's address field.
2. Press 'Enter' to begin the download.
3. When the .msi has finished downloading, attempt to install it.
When I burn CDs it won't let me
listen to the CDs on anything other than the computer on which I burned the CDs.
It says either that the book has expired, or she doesn't rights to access it.
"We believe the issue might be with the way the CD was
burned. They
should note that MP3 and WMA Audiobooks must be burned as audio CDs rather than
as data. The easiest way to do this is by using the “Burn” wizard in OverDrive
Media Console. Below they can find information on how to burn a title using
OverDrive Media Console.
1. If you have not already done so, verify that the permissions on the title
allow you to burn the title to CD (publishers may opt to disable this
functionality). This can be checked on the title details page on the library
site or in OverDrive Media Console, in the title Properties (license tab).
2. Place a recordable CD into your recordable CD drive.
3. In OverDrive Media Console, highlight a title and click the 'Burn' button.
The Burn Wizard is displayed.
4. Verify that the correct title is displayed on the first screen of the Burn
Wizard and click 'Next'. The 'Confirm' screen is displayed.
5. In the 'Confirm' dialog box, select the Part(s) you want to burn by checking
the box(es) next to the Part name(s).
6. Click 'Next' to begin burning the file(s) to CD. The Progress screen is
displayed.
7. If you have selected more than one Part to burn to CD, the Burn Wizard will
prompt you to enter a new CD as each Part finishes burning. When the burn
process is complete, the Burn Wizard displays a 'Success' message.
8. Click 'Finish' to exit the Burn Wizard."

My patron has
downloaded the console and updated the media player. However, none of the book
excerpts will play. A box pops up asking him to either save the file or to
cancel. What should we do? The intro from Overdrive on the Media Console plays
as it should. It is only when he tries to access the excerpt that nothing
happens. On my computer it immediately plays the excerpt. Both my computer
and his laptop run VISTA.
"The excerpts for
OverDrive Audiobooks are delivered as non-DRM protected WMA files (as opposed to
DRM-protected WMA files for the full audiobooks), and will play in any version
of Windows Media Player (even if the Windows
Media Player security upgrade has not been complete).
Depending on the browser your patron is using and the settings for downloading,
instead of downloading and opening these files directly into Windows Media
Player, they might be asked to 'Open' or 'Save' the file. (This will probably be
the case with Firefox.) If your patron is not given the choice to 'Open' the
file, please ask them to try saving it to their desktop and then opening it by
double clicking on the file.
If the file does not play correctly using this method, please ask them to check
that .wma files are set to open with Windows Media Player. On a Vista computer,
this can be done by completing the following steps:
1. Go to 'Start > Control Panel'.
2. Open 'Default Programs'.
3. Click on 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program'.
4. Navigate to '.wma'.
5. Click 'Change Program' if needed.
6. Select 'Windows Media Player'.
7. Click 'OK'.
