Southwest Iowa Library Service Area is now Southwest Iowa Library Services District. We are one of six library service districts helping libraries provide the best possible service to Iowans. We provide libraries in our area with support services: consulting, continuing education, backup reference, and interlibrary loan.
SWILSA's Vision for Member Librarians and Trustees

Southwest Iowa Library Service Area (SWILSA) is one of seven Library Service Areas helping libraries provide the best possible to Iowans. We are funded by appropriation of the Iowa General Assembly to provide libraries in our Area with support services: consulting, continuing education, backup reference, and interlibrary loan.
Southwest Library Services serves libraries in 22 counties: Adair, Adams,
Audubon, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Decatur, Fremont, Guthrie, Harrison, Lucas, Mills,
Monona, Montgomery,
Page, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, Taylor, Union, and Wayne.
Our Member Libraries include 83 public libraries, as well as
community college, and special libraries. We work in cooperation with Area Education
Agencies, who provide services to school media centers.
Librarians and trustees are served by two staff at the Southwest District Office:
