1)  Pottawattamie County Reading Program.  Melvyn Houser, Pottawattamie County Supervisor, called me a couple of weeks ago with an idea for a county-wide reading program for Pottawattamie County.  He had already made many calls to survey interest from librarians, and I offered to take over the organization. This will be a good chance for libraries of all types to work together:  public libraries, the community college library and, hopefully, some high school libraries. We have an organizing committee that is meeting on February 27.  I don't anticipate taking a major role in this beyond getting the committee organized--I think that is best done by the librarians of the local libraries, but I didn't think Mr. Houser should have to spearhead a library program.  We're grateful for his interest and his work.

2) I will not be attending the Public Library Association conference in Phoenix, after all.
