Many of SWILSA's online classes, including the Computerside Chats and Random Acts of Continuing Education, use the Horizon Wimba Live Classroom as an online classroom environment, available to us through the State Library of Iowa's "community partnership" with WebJunction. It is easy to use but we ask that if you have not used Wimba before you log into the classroom ahead of time and run the Wizard, which helps you to make any settings on your computer that you might need to adjust in order to make fullest possible use of the room's features. The link to the login page will be included in the e-mail confirming your registration and in the e-mail reminder you will receive before the meeting. (For an online "orientation" to the classroom see: http://www.swilsa.lib.ia.us/tutorials/TutorialUsingWimbaSWILSA/player.html ) The classroom makes use of VoIP (Voice over IP) so the audio is all done via the computer. You will want to have speakers on your computer. If you wish to speak you will want a microphone, but the microphone is not necessary. (You can also type in questions, etc., as text.) If you use a microphone please also use a headset or earphones so your microphone won't pick up the sound from your speakers and broadcast it back to everyone in the classroom. You will see this when you enter the classroom:
